How long have you been working for Dobas AG?
Since November 2021. It was thanks to a happy – and sweaty! – coincidence that I found out about the opening. I take tennis lessons with Nicole Buchecker and one morning she mentioned that they were looking to fill the position.
Where did your professional journey take you prior to your current position?
After getting my business school degree I started working in the export industry. I was in charge of exports to Israel, India and South Africa. After that I worked for a long time as an administrative and sales coordinator at international companies. Later, I took on a job in administrative accounting. Now at Dobas I’ve gone back to my roots in export management.
What are the main tasks that make up your daily work routine?
I organise, coordinate and oversee the shipment of our interiors to our international clientele.
How do you stay informed and, more importantly, inspired?
Communicating with project managers, manufacturers, shippers and the chamber of commerce helps me stay up to date and continually improves the quality of my work.
What materials make your senses tingle?
Fabric appeals to me very much as a material. It has so many different applications and can be used in infinite ways!
What should not be missing from your workplace?
I like to write with a pencil, so it’s important to have a pencil sharpener. I also always need to have Post-its in all colours and sizes so I can jot down all the things I can’t forget.
What building and/or space has left a particularly lasting impression on you and why?
On a trip to the United Arab Emirates, I visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Although Saudi Arabia is known for its big and exclusive buildings, this mosque really got me. The hand-tufted carpet over 5,500 square metres in size and the seven flower-shaped chandeliers – the largest of which measures 10 metres in diameter and weighs nearly 12 tonnes – are things you don’t see every day. Plus, the more than 1,000 columns, decorated on all sides by hand-inlaid mosaics, left me feeling amazed about what it is possible to create by hand.
What fills you with joy and pride in your professional life?
When shipments are delivered to our customers on time, in perfect condition and with all the necessary paperwork.
What brings you joy in your personal life?
Going out into nature with my family (although, with two teenage sons, this has been happening less and less lately). I am amazed, time and again, by how far a person can go with sheer muscle power, whether on foot or by bike.
