What are the main tasks that make up your daily work routine?

I develop concepts for new spaces and design the interior architecture. In the subsequent project phase, I draft the plans for the specialty contractors. My main focus is on the construction of furniture and sales spaces.

How would you describe your personal interior design style in three words?

Scandanavian – personal – cosy.

How do you find inspiration for new projects?

I find most of my inspiration while travelling and exploring the world. I like to stay in places that have a remarkable interior design. I also enjoy looking through architecture and design magazines.

How do you relax after a long day at work?

By getting out into nature and getting some fresh air! I’ve picked up the habit of walking to the next town after work instead of taking the bus. The exercise and the view of the mountains are liberating and help me decompress. After that I cook something delicious. I try to reduce my screen time at night and read a few pages of a book – preferably crime novels from Central Switzerland or Sweden.

What makes a place a home for you?

It’s a place where I feel safe and secure. A place that I can come back to after a long day at work and feel at peace. A place that reflects me – in the furniture, colours, smells, memories and experiences.

Travel Journal by Interior Architect Carolin: Costa Rica

Interior architect Carolin Kotte got to experience «pura vida» on her travels through Costa Rica. She was especially impressed by the relationship between architecture and nature – and the morning wake-up calls of the howler monkeys.
